Return to School - Homeroom Information

Posted On Wednesday September 08, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian/Caregiver:

Classroom location of the first class (Class 1) students are taking for this quadmester was shared by email today.  If you did not receive an email, please check your Junk folder.  If you have received nothing, please contact us.

Note: If you have Classroom Number of CAF or OFF you have a Study Period (spare) during that class and should either be off campus (recommended) or in the Cafeteria.  If you have a spare, please report to the desk in front of the Main Office for your timetable.

If you do not have a homeroom listed, please report to the Guidance Office for further information.

Students will receive a hard copy of their full year timetable in their Class 1.

All students will attend on Thursday for the full day.   Students should come ready to learn, with their Chromebooks (fully charged) and a pen and paper.   A reminder that there is no food service in the cafeteria.

Timetables

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we establish timetables for all students and process new registrations. We know that students will want to make changes, even with our best efforts. With that in mind, course change requests and the course schedule/grid (which students have been able to access through the Guidance Office in the past) can be found on the PPHS website: https://portperryhs.ddsb.ca/en/students/guidance.aspx#Course-Change-Requests. Students must be logged into their DDSB Google account to complete the request form.

Requests will only be processed using the course change request form. Please do not email requests to Counsellors, Administrators or the Guidance Secretary. After submitting the form, the legal parent/guardian on file with the school will receive an email confirming their consent and requesting acknowledgment. No requests will be processed until this final acknowledgment is received. Students must review the Course Schedule/Grid to confirm that a course is offered at a time that would work with their existing timetable. Please be aware that the majority of classes are at capacity, so there is very little room for movement. Please continue to have your student attend the classes on their timetables until notified of a change by Guidance. Changes will be made until Friday, September 17th, 2021.

As Covid delayed our timetable creation, we have a small number of students with blanks in their timetables as we were not able to see them prior to the end of the last school year.   Students who do not have a Homeroom (Period 1/2 class), please go to Guidance immediately upon entering the school. For students who do not have a Period 3/4 (afternoon class), the Guidance Team will attempt to meet with you during Period 1/2, please go directly to the Guidance Office after lunch if we have not resolved your issue. For students with other blanks in their timetable during Quadmester 2 or in Semester 2 (Quadmesters 3-4), Guidance will see you later this week or early next week.   There is no need to make an appointment or come to Guidance as we will reach out to you.

Guidance Appointments

Guidance appointments can be made through the PPHS website. Students will fill out a Google Form and Miss A. Winter, the Guidance Secretary, will book an appointment with the requested counsellor. There will be appointments available daily between 10:10am and 3:45pm, and will be spaced out to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Students are asked to ensure that they come at the assigned time. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend appointments with their students, but in these cases staff will set up a teleconference to include the parent/guardian.  Appointment requests can be made here: https://portperryhs.ddsb.ca/en/students/guidance.aspx#Appointment-Requests

For Students New To PPHS

The teachers at PPHS worked to create a virtual tour last year for our incoming Grade 9s. We have included the link here: https://sites.google.com/ddsb.ca/grade-8-getting-to-know-pphs/home/getting-to-know-pphs-a-virtual-tour for you to explore the resource-rich and amazing programs PPHS has to offer. Enjoy!
